Character Creation
How Do I Get Started?
Convergence MUSH uses an online chargen system similar to creating a character on an MMO. Once you've created an account, you will be able to create characters associated with your account. Please keep in mind that you should not name your account after a character you intend to play. Please use your Discord username or an email address you can be contacted at when making your account. When you log into your account, you should see this prompt.

From here, you will be able to create a new character. But! New characters can't immediately enter play on the mush itself. You begin in the Welcome Room, where you need to read and agree to some basic policies, and then you'll be able to move to the Character Creation room.
All of the information necessary to filling out a character is available in Character Creation, but for accessibility and examples, will be included here.
The Profile
This is the first impression other players will get of your character, the broad strokes summary of who they are, what they do, and how they live their life. Profiles are viewed by typing +finger <name> where <name> is the name of a character.
The fields in the profile are:
- Sex - Obvious.
- Job - What your character does for a living or is best known for.
- Species - What species your character is. Note: For special flavours of commonly known species/races like human, dwarf or elf, you can use Human (Solar Exalted), Elf (Dunmer), Elf (Eldar), and so on.
- Origin - What setting they come from. Examples would be IP like Deep Rock Galactic, DC Comics, Star Wars, or an original setting you're writing. This field is not set manually, but by being added to a +theme by admin.
- Quote - Something they might say. Optional, but encouraged. Make sure to include quotes, it will use exactly what you enter here.
- Profile - The thirty second pitch about who they are, personality, history and other key points.
- Skills - The random grab bag of two word notes, in-jokes, puns and so on. Optional.
Aside from origin, all fields are filled out with the +finger command in the form: +finger/set <field>=<text>
The Sheet
A deeper dive on the things your character can do, and how they do it.
- Abilities - What your character can do. Broad categories or specific powers that make them exceptional or different compared to us players.
- Resources - Things they have and could conceivably be separated from, unlike their abilities.
- NPCs - The significant supplementary non-playable characters associated with the one you play.
- Complications - Problems your character has. These can be physical, mental, social, just generally the things that get in the way of them doing what they normally want to do.
There is also a +info category of files you can create, to hold anything else; notes, trivia, etcetera. Anything in +info is not reviewed or approved by admin. Please don't abuse this to contradict what you submitted for approval. All sheet entries can have a summary that will appear in +list instead of the full body of the text, which we encourage for all but the shortest single-line/sentence entries, to give people an easy way to see a summary of your sheet.
See +help +info for all commands relating to editing your files. +abi, +res, +npc and +com can all be substituted for +info and take the same switches to add, edit, rename and delete entries.
The Backstage
While a Man With No Name might have a mysterious past nobody knows about in-character, for the sake of quality control we do require you to define your character's past so at least the admin know what you're bringing into the game. Use +pinfo, just like +info, to add private info files that can only be viewed by you and the admin. We recommend at least the following entries:
- Background - Your character's past. Include plot-relevant details, explain how your character arrived at their present situation.
- Personality - What makes your character tick? What are they capable of? Are they inclined to cooperate with others or are they going to strike out on their own?
- Plot Hooks (OPTIONAL) - If you want to drop a hint to the admin about how your character or some aspect of their backstory/setting/whatever can be worked into story that we may or may not be handling (or even other players' plots!), put them here. Keep in mind that nothing is guaranteed, if you have a burning desire to do a thing sooner than 'some possible time in the future' then we encourage you to be the change you want to see. But let us know what you're up to.
The Rest
After all that, there are a few remaining things to do:
Add a description to your character using @desc me=<content>. Even an simple image link is fine, so long as it gives an idea of what your character looks like.
Make sure you're a member of a +theme. If you're creating your own theme, you are automatically added to it. If you are joining an existing theme you will have to be added to it by an admin, which you can request on the guest channel on the mush.
Everything filled out? Got your @desc and theme? Then use the following command to submit a ticket to notify appstaff you are ready for approval!
+ticket/create Apps/Approval Request=(text)
The text can be whatever you like. A message to appstaff or specific requests for the character are all fine!
Also useful will be to set your timezone.
+account/op timezone=(TIMEZONE)
