Gapspace deforms reality, but rarely in the ways others can predict or utilize. Nothing can exist here because there is nothing to exist within. It is not the chaotic realms of the Wyld and the Warp, despite it's hatred of order and coherence. It is not Oblivion or the Negative Energy Plane despite being hungry and unfathomably hostile to life. It's touch corrodes physics and melts time.

It is a wound surrounding the Grand Convergence, an error in the celestial calculations that most worlds do not encounter. For those worlds, the error does not exist. The boundary between Gapspace and their normal realities are clean, well-defined and polished.

Despite the best efforts of the Castaway, nobody knows why the wound bleeds so freely around the Convergence. What little is understood is that there is a friction between Grand Convergence and Gapspace itself, which results in a number of strange phenomena. One is the formation of Gapcrystal. The other.. is the Unmade.

The Unmade manifest as photonegative shapes in black and crimson. They swarm Grand Convergence in droves, to kill and capture and drag their victims back into the nothingness of Gapspace. They vary greatly in power and ability, taking a dizzying array of forms and manifestations. The lesser Unmade, known as Shards, are completely mindless while the more powerful take on larger and more complex forms, often attacking others with dark mockeries of their own powers.

However, the Unmade are unfit for the reality they attempt to savage. Exposure to Grand Convergence erodes them, just as Gapspace erodes reality itself. They must retreat back into Gapspace or their Dead Sector havens before long, or risk dissolving as their forms collapse from the strain.

Tests have concluded that the Unmade do not have souls, and cannot be affected by technology or magical effects that alter or affect them. Psychic contact is wildly dangerous, as those who have attempted it get nothing useful at best. At worst, they perceive only an endless abyss.

One that stares back. Few survive the experience.

Traits of the Unmade

The Unmade are functionally infinite. There is no such thing as running out of Nothing, and thus there is no such thing as winning a war of attrition against them. The Unmade can continue to flood in as long as the local reality is not strong enough to destroy them faster than they arrive. There are Gaptech devices that can be used to help strengthen local reality (similar to those that create Gapspace Bubbles). In critical events there are more exotic options.

The Unmade have no biology. Anything that requires biology to have an effect does nothing to them. They are essentially constructs (with all the implicit resistances and immunities that would imply).

Shards have no mind. They are immune to any mind-effecting abilities. They cannot be feared and any attempt to control them thus far has ended only in pain and horror.

The greater Unmade are often known as 'Silhouettes' due to their appearance from a distance. They often manifest as a roughly humanoid shape, burning with crimson energy from the friction of interacting with reality. These greater Unmade act with a measure of sapience, though if they possess a true language, even the Spire's translation effect has been unable to make sense of their sounds. What is more evident is their malice, their hunger and their desire for destruction.

Greater Unmade are effectively immortal save for the gradual withering inflicted on them by their interaction with reality. The Spireguard, knowing that damage can only accelerate the process, must often quickly find avenues to entrap their implacable foes, outlasting them in an often exhaustive battle of attrition.

==Dead Sectors==

The Dead Sectors are portions of Grand Convergence that have been partially consumed by the Unmade. They are dangerous sections of dying reality, taking on a distinctive appearance of crimson sparks rising from the ground. Pools of black and crimson swamp the environment, eating holes through it and causing it to fade into a uniform antipathy weaker than Gapspace but still treacherous to life. There is a slow, grinding inevitability to these places. A gradual drain of life, energy and hope that is difficult to fight let alone cleanse.

It is still possible to reclaim these corrupted lands, but it takes significant effort. This kind of work is considered extremely dangerous, granted only to the most strong and confident Travelers, with the Spireguard taking a strictly defensive position in regards to them.
